MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - NMU’s enrollment numbers are up for next year.

At a regular meeting of the NMU Board of Trustees on Friday, NMU President Brock Tessman said application numbers have almost doubled since NMU transitioned to the Common Application. Tessman said there are currently problems with FAFSA that are bringing some uncertainty to enrollment numbers, but they look strong for now.

He says even with more students, the university is committed to each individual student’s success.

“Really it’s about the students we’re serving because they enroll here,” said Tessman. “We like to see the numbers increase. That does a lot of things for the bottom line, but the key thing is for us to support our students. That includes getting them to the finish line with their degree, of course, and also personal development and career development.”

Northern’s Board of Trustees also introduced Saturday’s commencement speakers and recognized the school’s athletic departments at the meeting.
