MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - With election season underway, Michigan First Congressional District candidate Callie Barr visited Marquette Monday encouraging residents to vote. She states that it’s important to make your voice heard.

“You’re vote is your voice and if you want to see change, it happens at the ballot box,” Barr said. “So, get everybody you know. We need to make sure that you bring your family, your friends. Nov. 3rd is the last day to vote. We are already in early voting so you can vote now. Please make sure you do it.”

Throughout Barr’s campaign, she has gotten to learn more about her community.

“We have been holding meet and greets and canvas launches all over the Upper Peninsula,” she said. “It’s really important that you have face time with folks. There’s people who see you on TV, but they really want to meet you in person. It’s been really fun to be able to do that.”

Former Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow joined Barr in Marquette Monday. She wants people to know their votes make an impact.

“We all have power in our vote,” Stabenow said. “I think sometimes it’s really easy with all the chaos right now and the corruption to feel like we can’t make any kind of a difference and that’s not true. Our voice is our power and I hope that everybody will be using that on election day.”

U.S. Representative Jack Bergman responded with a letter signed by 50 veterans calling out Barr for allegedly making untrue claims.

“Callie Barr is traveling across the First District making personal attacks on General Bergman while offering zero concrete solutions to the challenges facing Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula,” Jack Bergman.

“In fact, in her latest ad, she lies and said the General Chairs the Airforce Subcommittee in the House - the only problem is, there’s no such thing as the Air Force Subcommittee in Congress. Voters will soundly reject her corporate attorney politics on November 3rd and send General Bergman back to Washington to continue serving the great people of the First District.”
