Stephen grew up in Macomb, Michigan. He lived in East Lansing while he studied film and graphic design at Michigan State University. He also played trumpet in the Spartan Marching Band. He graduated in December 2021 before moving to the U.P. in 2022. Stephen enjoys spending his free time on the golf course or enjoying a movie.

South Shore Fishing Association sponsored the 4th annual Teal Lake Ice Fishing Derby. Cash prizes were awarded to the anglers with the longest perch, longest walleye, and largest pike. There were also door prizes and a raffle for new members.

Mental health awareness was the theme of the WCW Tri-Meet at NMU Saturday. All three teams wore ribbons for suicide awareness and there was a host of mental health resources available at the meet.

Courage Incorporated is an Ishpeming-based organization that helps individuals and veterans with physical disabilities enjoy the outdoors. Saturday, the group hit the ice during the Teal Lake Ice Fishing Derby.

Heikki Lunta festivities kicked off Friday with a bonfire. Skiers and snowboarders also participated in the Irontown Rail Jam. There was also public luging at the U.P. Luge Club, snowshoe lantern tours of old town, and an open house at the Negaunee VFW.

TV6's Cameron Chinn visited Norlite Nursing Center Thursday. He gave a presentation on clouds and their relation to the weather. From funnel clouds to cumulonimbi, residents learned about different cloud types and how to identify them.

The Home Builders Association of the U.P. hosted its 6th annual Wild Game Dinner Thursday. Attendees were treated to a dinner with bison tips, elk stroganoff, and salmon. There were also raffles, games, and a silent auction. The event was a scholarship fundraiser for students that are studying residential construction in the Upper Peninsula.

There’s a new exhibit at the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center. It’s called “It’s All Downhill: Alpine Skiing in the U.P.” The exhibit features pictures, maps, videos, and artifacts that date back to the 1930s.

The Marquette Lions Club is hosting Project KidSight this Saturday and Sunday. The club will be in the Westwood Mall during the flea market. Screenings are for kids from six months to six years old. The process is contact-free and takes less than a minute.

The 136th annual Suicide Ski Hill Jumping Tournament is on at the U.P. Nordic Ski Complex in Negaunee. Crowds gathered to watch skiers compete from across the country. Besides the jumping tournament, there was also a beer tent, food trucks, and bonfires.

Feeding America’s Mobile Food Pantry visited Marquette Wednesday. The truck delivered enough food to feed 360 families in need. 27 volunteers loaded the food into participants’ cars at the drive-thru event.

The 410 Ice Rink held the Fire and Ice Tournament this past Saturday. It was a fundraiser for the Ishpeming Township Fire Department. Wednesday, the rink presented the fire department with a $2,500 check.

The Marquette County Cup is a series of cross-country ski races for high school and middle schoolers. About 50 kids from Superiorland Ski Club, the Ishpeming Ski Club, the Marquette Ski Club, and Peninsula Nordic Ski Club from Calumet took part. The event gives students exposure to races in a fun atmosphere with friendly competition.

American Legion Post 50 in Iron Mountain hosted its 6th annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser this weekend. For only $5 folks were treated to a dinner and a chance to win cash prizes up to $1,000. The money will benefit the Post’s over 270 veteran members as well as the Iron Mountain community.
