MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - In July, a baby had to be airlifted from Marquette to Green Bay, Wis. for treatment; now the baby’s parents are facing child abuse charges.

The parents, Marquette residents Christopher Dunn, 28, and Katrina Ayotte, 22, were arrested Monday on charges of 1st-degree child abuse. If they are found guilty, it could lead to life imprisonment.

On July 15, the Marquette City Police responded to UPHS-Marquette for a well-being check on a four-month-old girl who was brought in for decreased responsiveness by her parents, according to a Tuesday afternoon press release from the Marquette Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers were advised that the baby was barely responsive and was receiving medical treatment. That afternoon, the baby was flown to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay for further treatment.

A joint investigation between the MPD and Michigan Child Protective Services led to charges being authorized against Dunn and Ayotte on July 31.

Ayotte and Dunn were arrested and lodged at the Marquette County Jail to await trial.

Marquette City Police Chief Ryan Grim said there was no update on the child as of Aug. 4.
