The Fire Station partners with Citizens for a Safe & Clean Lake Superior for cannabis vape recycling program
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Starting on March 4, The Fire Station and the CSCLS will have cannabis vape drop-off boxes in several locations around Marquette to reduce pollution.
The locations include the Peter White Public Library and the Superior Watershed Partnership Climate Office. Circle K locations, as well as Kenny’s Corner Store, will offer drop-off boxes for nicotine vape cartridges.
CSCLS Outreach Coordinator Chris Crouse says empty vape cartridges lead to high pollution levels in our landfills due to hazardous waste contained inside.
“We’ve got all kinds of electronic components. We’ve got the vape cartridges, which contain E-oils, and even though we’re asking for empty vapes, there’s typically a little bit of residual oil left in the devices,” Crouse said.
The Fire Station says it is hoping to open recycling options at its dispensary locations, but is working with the state to find a regulatory path forward to do so.
