Blossom Bird Bubble Tea: Where boba meets bakery and beyond
Co-owner Daniel Ball delves into the story behind the bubble tea cafe on Upper Michigan Today.

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Blossom Bird Bubble Tea in Marquette is your go-to spot to beat the summer heat with a variety of chilled bubble teas and sweet treats.
In addition to boba teas and sparkling lemonades, the café features a small bakery offering macarons on weekends. It’s also a haven for pop culture enthusiasts, showcasing unique toys and collectibles from Japanese anime and video games.
Co-owner Daniel Ball elaborates on Blossom Bird Bubble Tea’s offerings and its impact on the Marquette community.
Daniel explains that opening a bubble tea café was never part of their initial plan when he and his wife (and fellow co-owner), Kaila Ball, relocated to Marquette during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. As their time in the UP extended, Kaila encouraged Daniel to pursue his dream café idea. Realizing the absence of bubble tea cafés in the area, the couple decided to fill that niche.
The process began in February 2021, with Kaila handling the research and paperwork while Daniel maintained his job at a local manufacturing plant.
After securing a location and completing all necessary preparations, the only thing left was choosing a name. Daniel recalls considering “Bumble Bird Bubble Tea,” inspired by one of Kaila’s childhood virtual pets from “Neopets.” Ultimately, they settled on “Blossom Bird Bubble Tea,” a name that reflects their love for nature and the greenery inside the café. The doors opened to eager customers in August 2021.
Approaching its third anniversary, Blossom Bird Bubble Tea continues to expand. The café plans to introduce daily pastries and a special bubble tea for the upcoming screening of “Spirited Away” hosted by Nerds of Marquette at Thomas Theatre on Saturday, July 13th at 7:00 p.m.
Daniel emphasizes the strong connection Blossom Bird Bubble Tea has forged with its patrons, stating, “From the beginning, our goal was to stitch our thread in the fabric of the community. And I feel like we are achieving that.”.
