Wisconsin outdoor show prepares fishermen for summer

MARINETTE, Wis. (WLUC) - An outdoor recreation show this weekend in Marinette is preparing you for summer.

RV campers, fishing boats, and kayaks are a few outdoor recreation items on display during this year’s Fishing, Boating, and Outdoor Show in Marinette.

Vendors like R&R Marine Supply traveled from Sault Ste. Marie to showcase their equipment.

“As an example, this board behind me is a Thunder Jet. There are a few dealers in the Great Lakes Region, but we are the only one in Northern Michigan and the only one in Northern Wisconsin as well,” said RJ Pruitt, R&R Marine Supply owner.

The Thunder Jet sells for more than $100,000. Pruitt said right now, he is in serious conversation with fishermen looking to buy it.

“The buyers who are looking for good, heavy-duty aluminum boats to use on the Great Lakes, they are willing to spend more money and they are still buying,” Pruitt said.

Event organizers say this is the 4th year for the show. About 50 vendors showed off their products, including local vendors like Wind Rose North Outfitters from Menominee.

“The show is so close to our shop. I feel like it is a great opportunity to get out and talk to some people that are coming to the show that might not find out shop otherwise if they are from out of town,” said Zak Aubert, Wind Rose North Outfitters owner.

Aubert said his store specializes in fishing lures, outdoor footwear, and small boats. He said this summer he is most looking forward to taking some time off.

“I want to get out and use my kayak more. I think there are a lot of distractions right now, especially nationally with the election,” Aubert said.

Organizers said having this show every year lets people find their relaxation escape.

“I myself am ready for the outdoor activities. Even with the mild temperatures, I am ready to get my camper out and go fishing and use the boats,” said Lacey DeWindt, show manager.

The show continues during the day on Sunday. Tickets are $8. Kids 12 and under are free.
