It’s May 1 and Marquette is receiving record levels of snow.

"Oh I hate this weather," said Rhiannon Hintz, Northern Michigan University student.

If you are like Hintz, Wednesday's temperatures weren't ideal.

"This is not good,” said Hintz. “It's the 1st of May and it shouldn't be happening. I had to dig out my winter coat today!"

According to TV6 Chief Meteorologist Karl Bohnak, Wednesday snowfall officially broke the daily snow record for Marquette, with more than 5 inches on the ground.

With road closures due to high waves and slushy conditions, many found themselves staying indoors. However, some Marquette community members surprisingly weren't afraid of the conditions.

"I have pregnancy cravings, so rain, snow, sleet--nothing's going to stop me from getting ice cream," said expecting mother, Abrielle Londo.

Police officers suggest if you do go for an ice cream run, to remember to drive carefully.

"It's a good time to remind everyone out there that the roads are slushy, slippery, to take the extra time today to travel where you are going. Be cautious of the intersections,” said Marquette Captain of Patrol Operations, Mike Laurila, "I can't believe on May 1st I'm saying this but make sure your windows are brushed off so you can see clearly off every window of your vehicle."

While it may seem as the cold will never end, residents are optimistic.

"I'm hoping that the weather is going to clear up and that we can finally get some relief from the cold. I mean people will enjoy ice cream more that way,” said Londo.

"I hope it lets up...yes, it will let up. This will be the last day this happens,” predicted Hintz.
