Michigan Math and Science Center Network shutting down
Math and science centers across the state will be replaced this year. This includes four centers in the Upper Peninsula.
Funding for the Michigan Math and Science Center Network ends September 30. The network supports local schools in math and science education.
The 33 regional centers will be replaced with 16 Mi-STEM Network Regions. Mi-STEM regions 14, 15 and 16 will be in the U.P.
Plans for the Mi-STEM program is still in very early stages.
"I think the object is to try to broker between our community and our community and what our schools want. What does our community need, what do our businesses need and what do our students and teachers need, and try to make that bridge between the two," said CCISD superintendent George Stockero.
Copper Country ISD and Gogebic-Ontonagon ISD make up Region 16. Their advisory council includes all local universities as well as groups like MTEC SmartZone and Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region.
