Volunteers help maintain and build NTN Trails
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Some of your favorite trails around the U.P. are now getting maintained throughout the summer.
More than 74,000 people annually use the NTN Trails alone.
From downed trees to erosion and normal use, it’s mainly volunteers who make sure trails stay in good condition.
NTN Trails Executive Director Jeni Kilpela gave her appreciation to the volunteers.
“We have a small staff. A lot of people pitch in for a couple of hours, maybe once or twice a year. That is how we are able to run all our events, how we are able to maintain trails. Some people will take a trail for the whole summer and they will maintain it or talk with us about it and let us know when things happen,” she says.
Kilpela says volunteering can be a great way to find people to ride or hike with.
