Congresswoman Haley Stevens campaigning on lower costs
MICHIGAN (WLUC) - Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Michigan) has wrapped up a recent trip across the Upper Peninsula. Stevens is running for the Senate seat Gary Peters (D) has chosen not to run for again.
Stevens is sharing her plans to lower costs for things like groceries and health care. Before Congress, Stevens served on the U.S. Treasury’s Auto Task Force following the 2008 financial crisis as President Barack Obama’s administration bailed out General Motors and Chrysler.
She says she has experience working across party lines.
“In terms of my experience in industrial policy, I’ve had success, I talk about the things that bring people together and then I go and get them done,” Stevens said. “I had my first federal bill passed and signed into law in President Trump’s first term, before I was even one year into the job because I was focused on our workforce.”
Stevens also opposes President Trump’s tariffs, particularly those levied against Canada.
Eight other partisan candidates are running for the seat against Stevens.
On the Democratic side are former Wayne County Health Director Abdul El-Sayed, Research Health Specialist Rachel Howard and Sen. Mallory McMorrow (D-8th State Senate District).
On the Republican side, Dentist Kent Benham, Engineer Fred Heurtebise, Business Owner Andrew Kamal, former Congressman and Senate Candidate Mike Rogers and Genevieve Scott.
