Friends and family gathered at the Masonic Center in Marquette to remember and celebrate the life of a legendary U.P. artist Nita Engle. Engle passed away August 29 of this year at the age of 93. Monday would've been her 94th birthday.

Dozens of examples of Engle's watercolor artwork were on display inside the Masonic Center. Engle's loved ones say her legacy is more than just her paintings; she taught a lot of artists through her career as well.

"She had students up to her house and they'd go out on the Yellow Dog or Little Garlic River and do some painting and be on the beach and she was an incredible instructor. She left a lot of good water color artists," said Nita Engle's Niece, Cindy Engle.

Nita Engle is interred at Park Cemetery in Marquette.
