More than a hundred people gathered at the Marquette Regional History Center tonight. Retired judge Mike Anderegg and attorney Richard VanderVeen recounted three landmark cases that took place at the Marquette County Courthouse. Anderegg explored the differences in case of the People vs. Coleman Peterson, and its novel and film adaptions, “Anatomy of a Murder”. VanderVeen talked about Charlotte Kawbawgam vs. Jackson Iron County. The big headliner was the spectacle that was Theodore Roosevelt vs. George Newett, a famous libel case that saw the president as well as hundreds of reporters flood Marquette.

“I hope that tonight, we set in motion people thinking about how justice is done and how justice is written and how justice is understood in this county,” said Anderegg.
