WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump is entering the home stretch of his midterm campaign blitz, which includes a stop in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Friday.

Trump will stump for Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), a Trump ally who is running as the Republican candidate for governor against Democrat David Jolly, a former Republican Congressman who has since changed parties.

Donalds is favored to win, but the race is considered close enough to be competitive.

The race is different from four years ago, when Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla) won reelection by nearly 20 points.

Trump also is expected to stump for Republicans who are running for Congress. They include Sen. Ashley Moody (R-Fla.), who is in a special election bid to keep her seat for another two years. Moody is facing state Rep. Angie Nixon (D).

DeSantis appointed Moody to the Senate seat in 2025 after Marco Rubio became Secretary of State.

Daytona Beach is also home to Rep. Randy Fine’s (R-Fla.) congressional district.

Fine is one of the newest freshmen in the House. He was sworn in April 2025 after a special election to replace Mike Waltz, who also joined the Trump administration and is now U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

Florida is one of the states that voluntarily redistricted its congressional map ahead of the midterms.

Republicans hold 20 of 28 House seats in the Sunshine State, and that number could go up because of the redistricting efforts.
