FIRST ALERT: Extreme fire danger before storms
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) -Today, we have elevated fire weather conditions. This is due to the heat, low humidity, dry fuels, and gusty winds. Winds gust 15-20mph.

The Department of Natural Resources maintains no open burning, as most of the U.P. is under extreme fire danger. Be careful in outdoor activities.
Relief is on the way. A cold front moves in for the end of the week. We’re looking at a round of thunderstorms in the Western U.P. tomorrow afternoon. A second round comes on Friday afternoon and evening. Some storms could reach low severe limits, producing damaging winds and large hail. Otherwise, some storms could produce heavy soaking rain. Projections range from quarter to half an inch. Parts of the Central U.P. are trending around an inch to two inches.
Behind this front, spotty showers will linger into Saturday morning. The weekend won’t be as toasty.
