Baraga County Cancer Support Group, Inc. holds quilt show and basket raffle
BARAGA, Mich. (WLUC) - A cancer support group is supporting patients and their families with a raffle and quilt show.
Baraga County Cancer Support Group, Inc. held its event at the Niiwin Akeaa Community Center. Money raised helps cancer patients and their caregivers. The group also supports cancer patients who need to travel out-of-county to receive care by donating gas and grocery gift cards.
Melissa Treadeau, the founder and president of the group, is a cancer survivor. She says the group was started in memory of another cancer patient.
“One other gentleman from L’anse, Dan Verbanac, had his PET scan the same day, and we talked about starting a group,” He said, “I really wanna start a cancer group,’ and I said that would be great, let me know,” said Treadeau. “Well, his cancer journey did not end well, and so, we kind of dedicated the group to Dan.”
The Baraga County Cancer Support Group is hoping to make this quilt show an annual event.
