VILLAGE OF OSWEGO, Ill. (Gray News) - A man is accused of killing his ex-wife while her new husband watched on security cameras.

The Oswego Police Department said Tuesday officers responded to a home after a 911 caller reported that he believed his wife was in danger, saying he had seen a man chase her into their garage on a home surveillance video. The caller said he believed the man was his wife’s ex-husband.

Officers found the woman unresponsive, and paramedics declared her dead at the scene. A witness reported seeing a man running from the home, and authorities conducted a search of the area.

Using a vehicle description and license plate number believed to be associated with the suspect, an officer later spotted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The suspect was identified as Ryan Dodd, 44.

The Kendall County Coroner’s Office said Thursday that Ashley A. Stewart, 41, died of multiple sharp-force injuries. Investigators determined that Dodd, Stewart’s ex-husband, allegedly had followed her into the residence and fatally attacked her with a knife.

Dodd is charged with first-degree murder, home invasion, armed violence, residential burglary and aggravated stalking.

Dodd is in custody at the Kendall County Jail.
