Man charged with filming in public restroom may have recorded thousands of strangers, police say
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (TMX) - A Virginia man is facing charges for allegedly secretly filming “thousands of” men in a public bathroom since as early as 1996, and police are searching for additional potential victims.
The Williamsburg Police Department said Monday that it is seeking information in an ongoing investigation into unlawful filming in a public restroom in the area of South Henry Street and Duke of Gloucester Street.
The investigation began on Aug. 2 when officers responded to the area for a reported incident of unlawful filming.
Officers contacted the Criminal Investigations Bureau, which obtained and executed multiple search warrants related to the case.
George Thomas West, of Gloucester County, was arrested and charged with 16 counts of unlawful filming of another person and one count of disorderly conduct.

Investigators believe the 76-year-old unlawfully filmed “thousands” of men in public restrooms throughout the Colonial Williamsburg area since as far back as 1996, specifically on Saturdays.
Police said multiple victims from Aug. 2, 2025, remain unidentified. Investigators are asking anyone who believes they may have been filmed in a public restroom in the city of Williamsburg to contact Steve Roberts Jr., of the Williamsburg Police Department, by email.
Because police expect “many” people may contact the department about the case, additional resources have been assigned to speak with possible victims.
