Iron Mountain City Councilman joins race for 1st Congressional District
IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WLUC) - The race for Michigan’s 1st Congressional District is heating up with a new face.
Kyle Blomquist of Iron Mountain announced he is running for incumbent Republican Jack Bergman’s seat in the 2026 election.
Blomquist, running as a Democrat, was born and raised in Iron Mountain.
He now owns and works through Blomquist Architects, a firm based in downtown Iron Mountain.
Blomquist says he’s running to relieve the rising costs of living.
“I’ll use myself as an example: I’m a college educated person, I own a small business, I have a professional credential, but things are still hard for me,” Blomquist said. “So, that means things are harder still for 60-70% of our people.”
Blomquist has served on the Iron Mountain City Council for 10 years.
