Special education teacher accused of stabbing 6-year-old brain cancer survivor
LEONVILLE, La. (KPLC/Gray News) – A special education teacher at a Louisiana high school is accused of stabbing his 6-year-old stepson, who is a brain cancer survivor.
The child is said to have suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.
Patrick Greene, 37, was taken into custody around 6 a.m. Sunday after the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home in Leonville.
The sheriff’s office said deputies learned Greene and his wife were involved in a fight, and they found the 6-year-old with stab wounds to the face, neck and chest.
“They immediately found a young child on the floor bleeding severely from numerous lacerations,” sheriff’s office spokesperson Maj. Mark LeBlanc said.
Officials said Greene’s wife was also severely beaten, and Greene was combative and had to be restrained.
The child was airlifted to a Baton Rouge hospital with life-threatening injuries, LeBlanc said.
The boy, identified by family members as Korbin, has since undergone two surgeries for his injuries.
According to a public Facebook group supporting Korbin, he had previously undergone treatment at St. Jude’s to remove a cancerous brain tumor in 2022.
Authorities said six other children were in the home at the time of the stabbing. All of those children are safe and now with family members.
Greene is facing charges of aggravated assault (two counts), domestic abuse battery (child endangerment), domestic abuse battery (strangulation), and resisting an officer. The sheriff says additional charges will be filed.
The Calcasieu Parish School Board confirmed Greene was employed with the district but will be placed on administrative leave while a personnel investigation is conducted. He served as a special education teacher at Sulphur High School.
A judge ruled that Greene will be held in jail until a hearing Thursday. The judge also signed protective orders for the victim’s mother and siblings.
