MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Sports internet personality “GFed” has gained a lot of popularity on YouTube since starting his channel in 2023. He creates content ranging from stadium rankings to seeing how long he can stay in a venue after a game ends.

He also has a video series called the “Walk On Challenge,” which recently brought him to the U.P. after attending the NFL Draft in Green Bay.

“People were really trying to get me to the U.P. It just never happened, so when I went to the draft, I was kind of thinking, this is probably the closest I’ll be to the U.P. for a long time,” GFed said.

Originally from Lansing, GFed wasn’t entirely unfamiliar with Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan, which were the primary targets for his U.P. tour. He was unfamiliar with the sight of snow at the end of April, however.

Tech and Northern were also perfect candidates for his “Walk On Challenge” series, where he finds out if he can walk onto college athletic venues.

“That started in July 2023,” GFed said. “The first one was at the University of Wyoming, believe it or not.”

GFed successfully walked onto the field at Kearly Stadium in Houghton. Later, he made it inside the MacInnes Student Ice Arena and quickly found out that hockey is king in Upper Michigan.

“Really impressed,” GFed said. “It’s Division I hockey for a reason. Both Northern and Michigan Tech—they stack up to just about anyone that I’ve been to.”

GFed’s next stop was the Berry Events Center in Marquette. He got inside there too.

Eventually, GFed found his kryptonite: the Superior Dome. Arriving just before 9 p.m., it wasn’t in the cards on that particular evening.

“I still really want to go to the Superior Dome,” he said. “That was one of my bigger misses because it’s open pretty often. I wish I could’ve gotten that one, but I guess it’s just another reason to go back to the U.P.”
