Remembrance signs to be featured during annual Walk for Hope
ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) - Organizers are preparing for a suicide awareness walk that will look to bring faces to those impacted by suicide.
Registration for the annual Marquette County Walk for Hope is now open. The walk takes participants on a one-mile loop at Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming.
New this year are remembrance signs with photos of lost loved ones. Marquette County Health Department Health Educator Sarah Derwin says they will put a face to statistics.
“Statistics are important, but sometimes just seeing those faces of people that are lost and just knowing that suicide can really affect anybody can be really powerful for people,” Derwin said.
Families and friends of lost loved ones have submitted 13 photos for this year’s walk. Submissions for photos are over, but Derwin still encourages people to sign up for the walk.
