CENTRAL UP -- It's blizzard conditions outside in parts of the Central U.P., especially along Lake Superior. Blowing snow is cutting visibility down to zero in some areas. Drifting snow is making driving difficult, and side roads are drifting shut.
The white out conditions along the lake closed M-28 from Kawbawgam Road to Munising for most of Friday. The detour for drivers is M-94, but again this blowing snow is making travel tough. It was reopened shortly before 6 p.m.
Roads through the U.P. are snow-covered and slick. Take your time as plow crews try to catch up with the drifting conditions.
It's even bad for the plows. Two Marquette County sander trucks collided this morning on US-41 near the rock cut, right by the Welcome Center. The drivers are okay. However, damage to a least one plow was extensive.
We're not getting a lot of snow; it's the wind that's the problem. Temperatures are dropping, now in the single digits and below zero.
