The United Way of Marquette County and Yoopers United teamed up with NMU students to put up three Giving Trees around Marquette. The trees have gift tags with Christmas lists from about 50 kids from low-income families. Folks can take a gift tag, purchase the items on it, and return the tag with the gifts to the tree.

The newly elected Ontonagon village council president, Pamela Coey, offered some updates about some of her goals for her time as president, including some updates on the Municipal Employment Retirement System of Michigan pension debt that the village owes.
The Copper Country Community Arts Council hosted the Poor Artists Sale this Saturday. Over 50 artists packed the CLK Schools Gym to sell their works. Shoppers could find everything from jewelry to paintings to Christmas ornaments at this year’s juried sale. The Poor Artists Sale will benefit the Community Arts Center in Hancock.
When the Lambda Chi Alpha (ΛXA) fraternity house caught fire this June, Houghton City Volunteer Fire Department, Hancock City Fire Department, and Hurontown Fire and Rescue rushed to help the brothers save their house. To show their appreciation, the fraternity brothers hosted a luncheon for as many emergency services personnel as they could. First responders from all three departments were in attendance, as well as a host of ΛXA brothers.
