ST. PAUL, Minn. (WLUC) – In a field of 32 teams and 375 runners, the Northern Michigan University Cross Country team placed two in the top 15 and finished seventh as a team.
Senior Katelyn Smith (Gaylord, Mich.) paced the team with a sixth-place finish, running the 6K course in a time of 22:51.1.
Also finishing near the top was freshman Madison Malon (Grandville, Mich.) as her time of 23:04.8 put her in 13th place.
Senior Hanna Torvi (St. Paul, Minn.) also placed among the top 50. Torvi placed 44th and crossed the finish line at 23:54.5.
Two additional runners helped the Wildcats to their seventh-place finish. Freshman Paige Saiz (Milford, Mich.) crossed in 24:22.9 for 72nd place while freshman Meghan Langworthy (Big Rapids, Mich.), 24:24.4, was 75th.
Finishing in the top seven for the Wildcats included junior Ellise Longley (Bloomington, Minn.) and senior Paige Du Bois (Green Bay, Wis).
Longley finished 81st in a time of 24:31.4 while Du Bois was 88th with a finish in 24:40.0.
Nine additional runners competed for NMU.

Sophomore Aubrey Friedrich (Lockport, Ill.) – 26:13.9 (211th)
Sophomore Chrysanthe Patselas (Ann Arbor, Mich.) – 26:31.9 (230th)
Redshirt freshman Katie Cleven (Harbor Springs, Mich.) - 26:31.9 (239th)
The Wildcats seventh-place finish placed them second among Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams. Five of the teams who finished ahead of NMU are also currently ranked higher in the national rankings.
NMU will now enjoy time away from competition as they prepare for the Conference Crossover that takes place October 12 in Romeoville, Illinois and hosted by Lewis University.
