Wildcat Women's Golf second at Kohler Classic

KJOHLER, Wi. Senior Karissa Guthrie (Pierre, S.D./T.F. Riggs) won the women's Kohler Classic as the Northern Michigan University Women's Golf team took second place in the seven team field.

Guthrie finished the first day tied for first with a round of 75. She followed it with a round of 77 to finish with a score of 152 and finished five strokes ahead of second place.

Northern Michigan placed two others in the top ten. Junior Caro Els (Swakopmund, Namibia/Pro-Ed Academy) tied Guthrie with a 75 first round and took fourth place with a score of 159 after a round of 84 on day two. Senior Haley Hewer (Penticton, B.C./Penticton Secondary) shot a 79 and followed it with an 87 to score a total of 166 and finished in eight place.

Freshman Abbie Boozer (Brea, Calif.) tied for 14th place with rounds of 87 and 89 to finish at 176. Senior Baylee Dunmire (Palmdale, Calif. / Highland) finished with a round of 182, posting rounds of 86 and 96 to finish 19th overall.

As a team, the Wildcats finished with a final score of 652 which was 17 strokes better than third place.

The Wildcats will now take a break from action until the spring. They open the spring season with a trip to Florida to play at Bushwood Golf Course in Port St. Lucie, Florida to take part in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference versus Great Midwest Athletic Conference Challenge from March 7-March 9.
