Wildcat Men's Soccer drops contest to UW Parkside

MARQUETTE, Mi. The Northern Michigan University Men's Soccer team scored two goals against the University of Wisconsin Parkside but it wouldn't be enough as the Wildcats fell to the Rangers 4-2 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

The Wildcats were able to get on the board in the 26th minute to end a lengthy scoring drought. Down 1-0, the Wildcats were given a corner kick. Freshman Ryan Palmbaum (Rocklin, Calif.) took the kick and booted it across the field, finding junior Vegard Ervall (Trondheim, Norway), who was able to head the ball directly into the goal for his third goal of the season.

In the 76th minute and NMU facing a 3-1 deficit, senior Eric Suess (Ludwigsburg, Germany) centered a ball from far out toward the box. Senior Ben Hoffman (Petoskey, Mich.) was able to head the ball into the corner of the net to move the Wildcats closer, making it 3-2. However, Parkside was able to add another goal and captured a 4-2 victory.

Palmbaum led the Wildcats with four shots. Ervall and Hoffman both added two shots each. Three more Wildcats had a shot each as NMU finished the match with 11 shots.

In goal, sophomore Patrick Restum (Okemos, Mich.) tallied four saves.

The Wildcats will now hit the road next weekend for GLIAC action as they head to new GLIAC foe Upper Iowa University Friday and then Purdue University Northwest on Sunday.
