MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - United States Olympic Training Site weightlifters earned eight medals this weekend at USA Weightlifting’s National University Championships in Las Vegas.
Leading the medal count for the women was Destiny Young of Crystal, Minn., who competed in the 45 kg weight class. Young lifted 55 kg in the snatch and 70 kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 125 kg, earning her a gold medal for each lift.
The top medal winner for the men was Bret Pfeiffer, of Charleston, Ill., who competed in the 81 kg weight class. Pfeiffer lifted 132 kg in the snatch and 157 kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 289 kg. The lifts earned him gold, bronze and silver medals respectively.
Also taking home medals for the NMU-OTS team was Michaela McIntosh of New Hope, Minn. McIntosh finished the event with bronze medals for her overall total of 148 kg and her 86 kg lift in the clean and jerk.
As a team, the NMU-OTS squad finished the weekend with nine top-10 finishes and placed second in both the men’s and women’s divisions behind Lindenwood University.
