INDIANAPOLIS (WLUC) – Michigan Tech volleyball players Laura De Marchi and Olivia Ghormley were named to the 12th annual Midwest Region Crossover All-Tournament Team. Of 41 teams at the Crossover, Tech was the only team with two players honored.
De Marchi (Milan, Italy) set up the offense with 139 assists, averaging 12.64 per set. She added 30 digs, averaging 2.73 per set, six kills, and five blocks. De Marchi had a pair of double-doubles with 48 assists and 13 digs against Drury on Friday and 44 assists and 12 digs versus Illinois Springfield Saturday. The junior setter also added 47 assists and three blocks against Cedarville Saturday.
Ghormley (Oneida, Wisconsin) led the Tech offense with 58 kills on the weekend, averaging 5.27 per set. She hit .329 with only 12 errors on 140 attempts while adding 28 digs, four service aces, and two block assists. Ghormley had a double-double with 22 kills and 12 digs against Cedarville. The junior outside hitter added 22 kills with only one error versus UIS and 14 kills and nine digs against Drury.
Both De Marchi and Ghormley also received the honor in 2018.
Tech went undefeated at the Midwest Region Crossover for the first time in program history. The Huskies defeated Drury 3-1 Friday, Cedarville 3-1 and Illinois Springfield 3-0 Saturday. The GLIAC finished the weekend with a 24-13 record, with five teams going unbeaten.
The Huskies have seven matches remaining in the regular season and return to GLIAC play against South Division opponents at Parkside Friday and Purdue Northwest Saturday.
