HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) - Michigan Tech will host the 55th annual Great Lakes Invitational on December 30-31 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The Huskies will open against Michigan State in the first semifinal at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30. Michigan and Ferris State will play in the second game at 4 p.m.
Little Caesars Arena will host a tripleheader of hockey on Tuesday, December 31, as the third-place game of the GLI will take place at 11:30 a.m. and the winners of Monday's contests will meet in the GLI Championship Game at 2:30 p.m. Following the GLI Championship Game, the Detroit Red Wings will square off against the San Jose Sharks in the team's annual New Year's Eve game at 7:30 p.m.
Due to the NCAA rules and time constraints with the Detroit Red Wings playing at home, three of the four games will be decided in a shootout after a 5:00 5-on-5 overtime is played. The GLI Third Place Game will not have a shootout and can end in a tie.
