Tech hockey ranked No. 20 this week

HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) – The Michigan Tech hockey team jumped back into the national rankings this week, coming in at No. 20 in the USCHO.com Top 20. The Huskies were ranked No. 18 in the preseason.

Tech is 8-5-1 overall and at the top of the WCHA standings with an undefeated 7-0-1-1 record. The Huskies took five out of six conference points versus Bemidji State last weekend at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The two teams tied 3-3 Friday before Tech won the 3-on-3 overtime and then the Huskies dominated 7-2 Saturday.

Tech is one of three teams across the country unbeaten in conference play. The Huskies are currently tied for sixth in the country with an unbeaten streak of four games.

Senior forward Jake Lucchini leads the team with 16 points on six goals and 10 assists. Freshman forward Brian Halonen (4-6=10) and sophomore defenseman Seamus Donohue (0-10=10) also have double-digit points. Junior forward Gavin Gould is second on the team with five goals. Goaltender Matt Jurusik is 6-2-0 between the pipes, ranking him seventh in the nation with his .750 win percentage.

The Huskies play their rival Northern Michigan this weekend. The two teams will meet at the Berry Events Center in Marquette on Friday and the MacInnes Student Ice Arena on Saturday. The puck will drop at 7:07 p.m. each night. Tickets are available for Saturday's game. General admission tickets are open.
