ST. CLOUD, Mn. Depth was the deciding factor as the Finlandia University women’s hockey team (0-11) lost 5-0 to Saint Benedict (7-4), Saturday afternoon at Ritschie Arena.

For most of the first period, strong play from Kailee Medved and freshman Abby Edstrom kept the game scoreless. With two minutes left, junior Kylee Dyni blasted a shot that hit the pipe. At the 19:22 mark, Saint Benedict finally got on the scoreboard.

The second period was basically a mirror image of the opening period. Finlandia had several great scoring opportunities that were saved. Midway through the period, the Bennies made it 2-0.

In the third period, sophomore India Charles had a shot that was somehow saved by Medved at the two minute mark. CSB scored three goals over the next 11 minutes to pull away.

The Lions blocked 12 shots on defense. Edstrom had a career-high 51 saves.

Finlandia remains on the road, Friday, Jan. 17 taking on Lake Forest. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. CST
