CARNEY, Mich. (WLUC) - An Upper Peninsula high school basketball coach is coming out of retirement. Paul Polfus, who recently stepped down as Carney-Nadeau's boys junior varsity coach, will now be the boys varsity coach.
His son Jake Polfus decided to step away after 11 seasons earlier this month, and now Paul will take over in addition to his athletic director duties.
“I wasn't expecting Jacob to leave, but it left a big hole in the program. So I’ve decided to give it a shot,” Paul Polfus told TV6.
Paul is a U.P. Sports Hall of Famer who was the bench boss for three state championships with the girls program, accumulating 501 wins and 125 losses in 27 seasons. He also has 165 wins in 11 seasons with the boys program from 1996 to 2008.
