A Marquette Senior High School student is continuing her swimming career at the collegiate level.

Paige Whaley signed a letter of commitment to Northern Michigan University Wednesday afternoon. Whaley has been swimming competitively since she was 8 years old, and is a 3 time All U.P. swimmer. In her time on the MSHS Swimming and Diving team, Whaley competed in the 100 and 200 free, as well as the 100 fly and relay.

She was also a member of the MSHS record breaking 200 and 400 free relay teams this past year. Whaley says she is glad to compete at the next level, especially in her hometown.

“I've worked for this for a really long time, it's always been my goal to swim in college,” said Whaley. “So putting in all of the hard work has finally paid off, and it feels really good. I'm also excited to continue my swimming career in Marquette because the assistant coach at NMU was actually my first coach, so it's come full circle.”

At NMU, Whaley plans on studying Environmental Science.
