Olayinka's double-double not enough as NMU falls to Northwood Men

The Wildcat men fell at the hands of Northwood, 76-64, Saturday afternoon down in Midland.


In a close first 20 minutes, the men finished the first half with the 37-35 lead. The team also shot 70 percent from the field during the first half.

Olayinka led the team in points in the first half, with 14 points, including four buckets for two and went five of seven in the half.

Alec Fruin picked up a team high four assists in the first 20 minutes.


Sam Taylor led the team with nine points through the final 20 minutes for 13 total on the day. Olayinka added five defensive rebounds in the half to bring his game total to 11 for the double-double.

The team scored 27 points in the second half for the 76-64 final.


Dolapo Olayinka posted his second consecutive double-double with his team-leading 16 points and 11 rebounds.


Senior Sam Taylor's layup with 7:32 to go gave him 11 points on the day and the 1,000th of his career.

He added another two points in the final few minutes to bring his career total to 1,002.


Myles Howard continues his quest to the NMU blocks record with an additional three at Northwood. He now sits just six shy of the school record.


NMU will return to the Berry Events Center this Thursday, February 6, for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff on Scout Night.

The team hosts Wisconsin-Parkside Thursday night before Purdue Northwest comes to town on Saturday.
