Northland lumbers its way past Finlandia Men

ASHLAND, Wi. The Finlandia University men’s hockey team (8-12-2, 6-6-2 NCHA) fell 6-1 to Northland College (10-10-2, 8-5-2 NCHA), Friday night at the Bay Area Civic Center. With St. Scholastica losing to St. Norbert, FinnU can clinch a playoff spot with a win or a tie over the Saints tomorrow.

Finlandia wasted no time in getting on the board first. With one minute gone, sophomore Cale Markham fired one past the goalie to make it 1-0.

With 1:17 left in the first period, Northland College managed to even the score. In the second period, the Lions continued to remain aggressive.

The Lumberjack goalie made four great saves to keep FinnU from scoring. NC got two goals to go up 3-1 after two periods. Northland College held off Finlandia in the final period.

On face-offs, sophomore Hunter Kero and junior Blake Peavey had 12 and 11 wins, respectively. Sophomore Marcus Gloss had 21 saves.

The Lions remain on the road Saturday, Feb. 2 taking on St. Scholastica. The game is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. CST
