MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – The Northern Michigan University Cross Country team has released their 2019 schedule which sees the team compete in five regular season meets prior to their championship season.
After an exhibition meet at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan, the regular season begins at the Northwood Cross Country Invitational, hosted by Northwood University on Saturday, September 8.
The following week, Friday, September 13, the Wildcats head to the Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State University for the sixth-straight season. Six Division I teams competed in the meet last year.
On September 28, the team heads to the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota. The Wildcats finished fifth of 22 teams last season.
NMU then heads to the Conference Crossover on Saturday, October 5 and is hosted by Lewis University this year. In the largest meet of the regular season, 28 teams competed in this meet last season.
The regular season concludes with the U.P. Championships, which NMU will host at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 18.
The next week, NMU heads to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Lake Superior State University. The Championship meet begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 26.
University of Southern Indiana hosts this year's NCAA Regionals in Evansville, Indiana. The Regionals take place Saturday, November 9.
The Wildcats return a large portion of their roster for 2019 and will lean on rising seniors Hanna Torvi (St. Paul, Minn.), Katelyn Smith (Gaylord, Mich.), Victoria Harris (Iron River, Mich.), and Paige Du Bois (Green Bay, Wis.).
