Nordic Skiing Releases 2019-20 Season Schedule
Northern Michigan University Nordic Skiing has released their 2019-20 season race schedule which features two home meets and a total of 10 meets throughout the year.
The season begins with the NMU Open December 14-15 and will be hosted at the Al Quaal Cross Country & Snowshoe Trails in Ishpeming, Michigan. 2019 will conclude with the CSC Cup hosted by Michigan Technological University at the Michigan Tech Trails in Houghton, Michigan. December 21 will consist of the Skate Sprint with the Classic Distanct Mas Start race being run on December 22.
After the new year, NMU returns to the Michigan Tech Trails for the United States National Championships. On January 2 will be the Skate Sprint followed by the Skate 10/15km Individual Distance race. January 5 sees the Classic 7.5/10/20/30km Mass Start with the event concluding January 7 with the Classic Sprint.
The Wildcats will then take part in three meets over the next three weekends. On January 18-19, College of St. Scholastica host races at the Mt. Itasca Ski Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The next week, January 25-26 will have the team at the Birkie Start Trailhead for a meet hosted by Michigan Tech. NMU then heads to the Cedric A. Vig Outdoor Center in Rhinelander, Wiconsin for a meet hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Each meet consists of the Skate Sprint on the first day and Classic Mass Start race on day two.
The CCSA Championships take place February 15-16 and will be hosted by Michigan Tech. The 5/10k Individual Freestyle race takes place on the 15th with the 15/20K Mass Start Classic taking place on the 16th.
NMU will host the Central Regional Championships at Al Quaal this year. Following the same format as the CCSA Championships, the freestyle takes place on February 22 with the Classic being run on February 23.
This season's NCAA Championships will be hosted in Bozeman, Montana at the CrossCut Ski Center. The 5/10k Individual Freestyle will be run on March 12. The 15/20k Mass Start Classic will be on March 14.
On March 26-April 2, the squad heads to the U.S. Distance National Championships in Kelowna, British Columbia at the Silverstar Mountain Resort. The Classic will be run on March 26 with the Freestyle to follow on March 27. On March 30, skiers will compete in the Classic Sprint with the Team Spring Freestyle running on March 31. The Championships conclude with the 30/50km Freestyle on April 2.
The Nordic Ski team is coming off a fourth place finish among Nordic teams at this past season's NCAA Championships. The women's team will be led by rising sophomore Abigail Jarzin (Green Bay, Wis.) while Zak Ketterson (Bloomington, Minn.) will be eyed to lead the men's team as both were named CCSA Skiers of the Year.
