NMU's Els qualifies for D-2 Golf Nationals

OWENSBORO, Ky. The Northern Michigan University Women's Golf team competed in the NCAA Division II East Regional with junior Caro Els (Swakopmund, Nambia) becoming the first women's golf student-athlete to advance to the NCAA Nationals. As a team, the Wildcats finished seventh among 12 teams.

Els finished the three-day Regional at nine over par, posting rounds of 75, 72 and 78 to finish with a final score of 225. The junior finished tied for sixth overall and advances to the NCAA Nationals as the top four individuals not associated with the top four teams move on. The NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships will take place May 14-18 at the PGA National Resort-Champions Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida

Senior Karissa Guthrie (Pierre, S.D.) was tied for 22nd overall with a final tally of 235, notching rounds of 79, 78 and 78. Senior Haley Hewer (Penticton, B.C.) shot rounds of 83, 79 and 77 on her way to a 239 total score and tied for 34th place

Senior Baylee Dunmire (Palmdale, Calif.) tallied scores of 86, 85 and 88 for 56th place and a score of 259. Freshman Abigail Boozer (Brea, Calif.) finished at 261 total and tied for 58th after rounds of 86, 87, 88.

The Wildcats finished seventh out of 12 teams who competed in the East Regionals and were second among the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams who competed. A total of 65 individuals competed in this year's NCAA East Regional.
