ASHLAND, Oh. Northern Michigan University Men's Soccer senior forward Sam Popp (Northville, Michigan) has been named to the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Region Second Team. The D2CCA all-region teams are nominated and selected by the region's sports information directors.

Popp led the Wildcats in nearly every offensive category in 2018. He also led the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with 10 goals and 23 points during the regular season while also adding three assists. His goals and points both set single season records for NMU giving Popp the best two offensive seasons in program history. Popp helped the Wildcat offense to 1.88 goals per match in 2018, nearly one more goal per match more than the previous season.

In 2018, Popp was a member of the first NMU Men's Soccer graduating class after transferring to the program for their first season of competition in 2016. He now owns the career records for goals, assists, and points as well as five more categories.

For the second straight season, the Wildcats ended their campaign having set a number of records and reached program firsts. For the first time in the three-year history of the NMU Men's Soccer program, the Wildcats finished with a .500 overall record and matched last season's win total.
