MARQUETTE, Mi. The Northern Michigan University Volleyball team has made their 2019 season schedule available which features seven matches in Vandament Arena.
The Wildcats will face six teams that made the NCAA Tournament in 2018 and totaled 289 wins collectively last season.
The season begins at the Keweenaw Classic hosted by Michigan Technological University. The season opens against the University of Mary Thursday, September 5. They then play Upper Iowa University and 2018 NCAA Tournament qualifer Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday. The final game of the classic will be against University of Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday.
NMU continues their season at the University of Indianapolis Invitational and will take on Davenport University and Minnesota State University-Moorhead on Friday, September 13 and will play Saint Leo University and Gannon University on Saturday, September 14. Saint Leo reached their seventh-straight NCAA Tournament last year while Gannon finished 31-3 on their way to a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship and an NCAA Regional Semifinal appearance.
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action begins September 20 with the team visiting Grand Valley State University and Davenport, the GLIAC Tournament runner-up, for another matchup on September 21.
On Tuesday, September 24, NMU visits Michigan Tech, an NCAA Tournament qualifier. The Wildcats then host their first match in Vandament Arena against Upper Peninsula rival Lake Superior State University on Friday, September 27. The next day, the team hosts Saginaw Valley State University.
NMU hits the road for another weekend then returns home to face NCAA Tournament qualifier Ashland University October 11 and Wayne State University October 12.
The Conference Crossover Tournament takes place October 18-19 with opponents announced during the season. The squad then heads to Purdue University Northwest and University of Wisconsin Parkside the next weekend.
On November 2, the Wildcats return to Vandament Arena to take on Michigan Tech. They then host Northwood University November 8 before taking on defending GLIAC Champion Ferris State University for Senior Day, November 9.
The regular season concludes with the team visiting Saginaw Valley and Lake Superior State University.
The Wildcats started the 2018 season with their best start since 2010 with a 9-0 record, including a victory over then #1 University of Minnesota Duluth. The 2018 team featured seven seniors but return 11 for 2019 including All-GLIAC Second Team selection Sarah Kuehn (Green Bay, Wis.).
