NEW ORLEANS, La. (WLUC) – Northern Michigan University Track & Field saw six student-athletes earn U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Academic Honors. As a team, the Wildcats also earned All-Academic Team status.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic award, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either the indoor or outdoor season.
Senior Shayla Huebner (Marquette, Mich.) was named a First Team All-American in the 800 meter run for both the Indoor and Outdoor season and set new school records in the 800 in both seasons as well as helped the 4x400 Meter Relay teams to new records as well.
Senior Michelle Juergen (Gau-Odernheim, Germany) earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Field Athlete of the Meet at the Indoor and Outdoor GLIAC Championships. She was a Second Team All-American in the Long jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships and also competed in the High Jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships where she finished 11th.
Senior Lynsey Collins (Escanaba, Mich.) competed in the 4x400-meter relay at the NCAA Indoor Championships, aiding the team to an 11th place finish and joined Huebner to set a new school record in the event as well.
Senior Paige Dutcher (Williamston, Mich.) and junior Paige Du Bois (Green Bay, Wis.) were members of the Outdoor 4x400 Meter Relay to beat the school record at the Dr. Keeler Invitational, winning the race with an NCAA Provisional time of 3:46.86.
Sophomore Nina Augsten (Koenigsbronn, Germany) posted a total of 4,520 points to win the Heptathlon at the GLIAC Outdoor Championships.
As a squad, NMU posted a team GPA of 3.43, joining seven other teams from the GLIAC.
In order to be considered for Scholar Team of the Year a program must finish highly at the national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA as a team. The Wildcats finished 62nd at the Outdoor Championships and 44th at the Indoor Championships.
