Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site weightlifter Mason Groehler placed fourth overall today at the 2016 Pan American Junior Championships in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Groehler, of Denmark, Wis., who competed in the 77-kilogram weight class, lifted 134kg in the snatch competition. His total was good enough to earn him a bronze medal in the snatch. In the clean and jerk, Groehler lifted 160kg to place fourth in that category.
His total and new personal record of 294kg earned him a fourth-place overall finish.
“In Mason's short time period at NMU, he has made big strides in his technical proficiency and leg strength, leading to good results on the world stage,” said Coach Vance Newgard. “He has a bright future in the sport.”
