MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Northern Michigan University's Men's Swim and Dive team took on University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point Saturday afternoon and came away with a 191-104 victory over the Pointers.
Taking the 200-yard medley relay was senior Lajos Budai (Kecskemet, Hungary), freshman Roberto Camera (Rozzano, Italy), senior Maksim Kapustin (Minneapolis, Minn.), and freshman Ivan Amillo Escobedo (Valencia, Spain) with a time of 1:32.65.
The Wildcats also won the 400-yard freestyle relay with senior Michael Biclawski (Canton, Ohio), Camera, sophomore Levi Lewis (Little Rock, Ark.), and senior Jonas Reinhold (Nienhagen, Germany) touching at 3:11.65.
TAKE THEM ALL
Junior Ondrej Zach (Rudolfov, Czech Republic) took the 1000-yard freestyle for NMU, touching the wall at 9:41.61. Zach also took the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 1:56.09. In the 500-yard freestyle, Zach took his third win of the day, finishing with a time of 4:43.38.
Freshman Erikas Kapocius (Ignalina, Lithuania) also won both of his individual events. Kapocius took the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.41 as well as the 400-yard individual medley, touching the wall at 4:15.04
RACE IT OUT
In a very close race, Amillo Escobedo and Reinhold competed in the 200-yard freestyle touching at 1:44.79 and 1:44.94 respectively to take the top two spots.
Amillo Escobedo took the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 47.16. Lewis won the 200-yard backstroke for Northern, touching at 1:58.87.
In the 200-yard breastroke, Camera took it for the 'Cats with a time of 2:06.96.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Budai won with a time of 21.19, followed by junior Amir Saman Khajegi (Mashhad, Iran) at 21.79 and Biclawski who swam 22.33. Budai also took the 100-yard butterfly, finishing at 51.81.
In the 200-yard individual medley, the Wildcats took the top four places. Reinhold started the trend with a time of 1:59.11, followed by Busse with 2:02.69, Kapustin touched at 2:07.26, and sophomore Grant Combs (Clinton Township, Mich.) finished at 2:07.71.
Northern's divers took the 1-meter dive, with freshman Micah Currie (Blue Springs, Mo.) earning 437.05 points, achieving a new NMU pool record. Following Currie was freshman Ryan Leach (Colorado Springs, Colo.) with 448.20 points.
The Wildcats are travelling to Calvin, Ohio for the Calvin College Invitational on Thursday, December 5 beginning at 6 p.m. and continuing throughout the weekend.
