NMU Men's Golf Ends Fall Season Ninth at Kohler Classic

KOHLER, Wis. (WLUC) - The Northern Michigan University Men's Golf team completed their fall season and battled bad weather and high winds to finish ninth of 20 teams at the Kohler Classic, played on the Whistling Straights Golf Course Monday and Tuesday.

The Wildcats were led by senior Chris Black (Lisburn, North Ireland), who finished tied 27th overall with scores of 84 and 86 to finish at 170. Senior Kurtis Fontinha (Penticton, B.C.) shot 87 and 85 for a 172 to finish tied for 36th.

Tied for 59th was sophomore Carter Mason (Negaunee, Mich.) with a final tally of 179 after rounds of 96 and 83. Senior Kyle Pouliot (Gladstone, Mich.) shot rounds of 89 and 97 for a total of 186 and tied for 78th while freshman Scott Spyra (Spring Grove, Ill.) was tied for 88th with rounds of 111 and 80 to finish with a score of 191.

The event featured ran throughout and players faced winds up to 25-35 miles per hour.

The Wildcats will now enjoy time away from the links before returning the spring season. They open the spring by heading to Tampa, Florida for the Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff at the Saddlebrook Country Club on March 4.
