HOUGHTON, Mi. Michigan Tech hockey is hosting a Copper Country Strong game on November 23 against the Alaska Nanooks. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. in the first WCHA home game for the Huskies. The event is being sponsored by Keweenaw Chevrolet and Pepsi of Houghton.
The hockey team will wear special Copper Country Strong jerseys and is hosting a silent auction during the game to auction off the uniforms. All proceeds from the silent auction will go to the Portage Health Foundation's Flood with Love initiative
People can bid as many times as they want in $10 increments on their favorite jersey until the 9 p.m. deadline. The minimum bid is $70 and you will be able to bid online at the Michigan Tech Hockey Facebook page. Bidding sheets will also be located on the wall at ice level under the suites.
Tech Athletics has already raised over $2,000 from the hockey and basketball golf outing in September and Copper Country Strong T-shirt auctions at recent volleyball and soccer matches.
The Student Athlete Advisory Council will be holding a Miracle Minute during the game with donations going to PHF and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Keweenaw Chevrolet, Pepsi of Houghton, and Tech Athletics have partnered together to donate 200 tickets to various groups throughout the Copper Country who volunteered their time and services during the Father's Day flood. The family of Thatcher Markham will also be attending the game.
The Portage Health Foundation has received over $600,000 in donations so far to help get families back into safe, healthy home environments. PHF has promised that 100 percent of the proceeds they receive through the Flood with Love initiative will go back into home repairs for homeowners who were affected by the Father's Day flood.
