Men's Swim & Dive Takes Victory at UWSP

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WLUC) – Northern Michigan University Men's Swim & Dive posted wins in 13 events on their way to a 175-119 victory over University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon.

RELAY WINS
The Wildcats won both relays. The first race saw the team of senior Joshua Cosgrove (Bury, U.K./Bury College), senior Arnoldo Herrera (Heredia, Costa Rica/Saint Jude), junior Maks Kapustin (Minneapolis, Minn./Henry Sibley), and junior Jonas Reinhold (Nienhagen, Germany/Holty Gymnasium-Celle) win the 200-yard Medley Relay in a time of 1:34.41.

In the final race of the night, Reinhold, freshman Jon Busse (Stillwater, Minn.), Kapustin and junior Lajos Budai (Kecskemet, Hungary/Bolyai Janos) captured the 400-yard Freestyle Relay in 3:10.29.

WINNING OFTEN
NMU was led by Budai, who finished with a team-best three individual victories. In his first race, he won the 200-yard Freestyle in a time of 1:45.95. He then touched at 46.70 to win the 100-yard Freestyle. To finish his day, he won the 400-yard Individual Medley with a time of 51.55.

WINNING TWO
Senior Kyle Flickinger (Brimley, Mich./Sault Area), with a final score of 284.40 won the 1-Meter Dive. The score qualifies him for the NCAA Prequalifying Meet at the NCAA Championships.

INDIVIDUAL FIRSTS
Seven other swimmers won events for the Wildcats. Busse captured the 1,000-yard Freestyle with a time of 10:05.46. In the 100-yard Backstroke, Esteban Gutierrez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Colojio De Buchilleres SEA) posted a time of 52.44 while senior Ryan Leonard (South Wales, Australia/Toronto) captured the 100-yard Breaststroke in 58.44.

NMU also swept the 200-yard races. Reinhold won the 200-yard Butterfly in 1:55.69 with Cosgrove taking the 200-yard Backstroke, 1:53.11. In the 200-yard Breaststroke, Herrera won with a time of 2:10.12.

Rounding out the individual wins was freshman Levi Lewis (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central) in the 400-yard Individual Medley. Lewis won with a time of 4:14.00.

NMU will return to action at the end of November by competing in the Calvin College Invitational Thursday, November 29 through Saturday, December 1.
