HARRIS, Mich. (WLUC) - At the Sage Run Golf Club, the Northern Michigan University Men's Golf team completed their first event of the season as they took part in the Island Resort Intercollegiate against eight NCAA Division I Universities plus another Division II squad.
The Wildcats were led by senior Chris Black (Lisburn, Northern Ireland), who posted a final score of 236 after rounds of 78, 77 and 81 to finish 67th. Tied for 70th was senior Kurtis Fontinha (Penticton, B.C.) with rounds of 81, 77 and 82 to give him a final score of 240.
Senior Kyle Pouliot (Gladstone, Mich.) scored 80, 78 and 85 to finish 72nd with a final score of 243. Sophomore Carter Mason ( Negaunee, Mich.) was right behind in 73rd place with a total score of 246 and rounds of 78, 83 and 85. Rounding out the NMU team portion was freshman Scott Spyra (Spring Grove, Ill.) who took 74th place with his rounds of 82, 89 and 90 gave him a finish of 261.
The Wildcats also had freshman Sky Nam ( Garden Grove, Calif.) compete and finish 75th after he shot rounds of 92, 87 and 98 in his first career collegiate event.
As a team, the Wildcats finished 10th.
NMU will now enjoy time off from competition before heading to Findlay, Ohio and the Findlay Country Club to compete in the Doc Spragg Invitational on Monday September 23 and Tuesday, September 24.
