MTU's Halonen named WCHA Rookie of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Mn. Michigan Tech forward Brian Halonen was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week on Monday (Oct. 29). The freshman leads the Huskies with five points and is tied for the WCHA lead amongst rookies in points.

Halonen, a native of Delano, Minnesota, is currently on a three-game point streak. He had a pair of two-point nights in Tech's nonconference series split at No. 14 Wisconsin over the weekend. Halonen had a pair of assists Friday in the 6-2 victory. He scored his first career goal Saturday with a power play tally in the first period and then added an assist on Tech's second goal by Greyson Reitmeier. Halonen's first career point came on October 13 when he set up Cooper Watson in the third period versus No. 3 Minnesota Duluth.

Tech is 1-3-0 overall and begins WCHA play at Alabama Huntsville this weekend (Nov. 2-3). The puck drops at 8:07 p.m. each night from the Von Braun Center.
