HOUGHTON, Mi. The Michigan Tech men's basketball program and Head Coach Kevin Luke are pleased to announce the addition of Brad Simonsen (Houghton, Michigan) for the 2020-21 season. Simonsen has signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic career as a Husky.
"We are fortunate to get a really good local player from Houghton," Michigan Tech Head Coach Kevin Luke said. "Brad is an exceptional shooter who has great size and possesses the ability to score inside along with being able to step out and make three-point baskets. He is becoming more of a complete player as a senior in high school and we are excited about what he brings to our program.
Simonsen, a 6-6 wing player from Houghton High School, was a First Team All U.P. selection and named to the West Pac Conference Dream Team. Simonsen averaged 21.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game as a junior last season and has already eclipsed the 1,000-point barrier at Houghton. He is also on pace to break the school's career scoring record.
Simonsen joins Adam Hobson (Stoughton, Wisconsin), who signed his NLI earlier this month, in the 2020-21 recruiting class.
The Huskies are 2-2 to begin the 2019-20 season and will be back on the court Friday night in a non-conference showdown at Alaska Anchorage followed by a battle with Alaska Fairbanks Saturday. Friday's tip-off is scheduled for 11:30 p.m. eastern time with Saturday's contest slated for a 9:15 p.m. eastern time start.
